"Your study course has been nothing short of fantastic. It has provided me with invaluable information and helped me to achieve my goal."
Peter C, Cheshire.
How does the programme work?
You’ll learn how to develop and demonstrate the skills, abilities, and competencies which the police assess through ten workbooks packed with information, advice, and practical exercises. In each workbook you are given guidance on how to complete a police application form question, a problem solving exercise, and a letter writing exercise. When you’ve completed these, send them to us in the Freepost envelope, or in an email and we’ll read what you’ve written very carefully. We’ll then provide unique and individual advice on how to improve what you’ve done, then return your work, usually on the same day as it arrives at our office.
We also actively encourage you to contact your personal tutor by phone or email to discuss any issues, or problems or any of the skills, abilities and competencies with which you may be having difficulties.
What’s the difference between a course and a programme?
When you go on an ordinary course you’re given a block of information. Even if it’s a good course, it was probably written before the process was updated by the Home Office in 2003, or with a target audience in mind, and it certainly wasn’t designed to take into account your personal strengths and weaknesses. And when a course is finished, you go home and you’re on your own. The Police Home Study Programme is different for everybody. We send you workbooks and you send back your ideas. Our feedback gives you information that will help you as an individual. And we won’t dump you. You’ll stay with us until you become a police officer and you’ll receive full and personal tutor support for as long as it takes. Again, we want to help. So make full use of the opportunity to talk to your tutor who knows about police recruitment and cares about your progress. (You can phone between 9am - 9pm seven days per week.) And when you feel ready to complete your police application form, we’ll be here to make sure it's perfect. Just send us a copy and we’ll check it for errors and omissions and help you to express your ideas in the most effective and appropriate way to make sure that it’s successful first time.
What will I actually learn on the programme?
The ten workbooks are packed with information, exercises, and underpinning knowledge about professional and ethical standards, communication skills, self motivation, decision making, creativity and innovation, managing others, leadership, planning, respect for diversity, team working, community and customer focus, problem solving, personal responsibility, and resilience. Then there are ten Simulated Police Initial Recruitment Tests, (psychometric tests), role play scenarios, a refresher course in English and a refresher course in Mathematics. There are no more books to buy, nothing more to pay, and no time limit to your membership. And when you’ve demonstrated the commitment required to successfully complete the programme we’ll present you with an impressive Certificate which shows the world, the police, and most importantly yourself, that you have the motivation and determination to prepare for a career as a police officer.
